Jonathan Anderson gets new job at V&A Museum

Jonathan Anderson, the Northern Irish founder of JW Anderson and creative director of Spanish luxury house Loewe, has been named a trustee of the board of the V&A for the next four years.

One of the UK’s leading fashion designers, he was appointed by Theresa May to the board alongside three further trustees.

Anderson has led several initiatives to support art and craft since earning critical acclaim and commercial success for his groundbreaking aesthetic. In 2016 he founded the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, which has become the world’s top international award for contemporary craft, and in 2017 he curated a multidisciplinary art exhibition featuring sculptures, fashion pieces and objects of crafts at The Hepworth Wakefield.

The exhibition, titled Disobedient Bodies, explored the way human form has been reconceived by artists and designers across the 20th and 21st centuries, encapsulating his two major passions: fashion and art.

As a V&A trustee, Anderson will work alongside 17 other board members to ensure and promote visitors’ enjoyment and understanding of art, craft and design.

The London museum is currently hosting the largest Dior exhibition to be held in the UK. Its massive popularity has prompted its extension until September, after tickets for the entire run sold out within three weeks of opening.

The V&A is also set to open a retrospective on fashion designer Mary Quant, whose designs influenced the trends in the 1960s, this Saturday.

And on 21 of September, the largest-ever exhibition on fashion photographer Tim Walker will open at the respected fashion and design museum as part of a series of major photography exhibitions.
