Karl Lagerfeld to open Marbella luxury villa estate in 2021

The house of Karl Lagerfeld is to open a luxury villa estate named Karl Lagerfeld Villas Marbellas by end 2021 in a deal with Sierra Blanca Estates.

The house has billed this as a one-of-a-kind architectural project in Marbella. Entitled Karl Lagerfeld Villas Marbellas, it will be located between the Penibaetic System mountain range and the Mediterranean Coast, in a project that combines landscaping, architecture and sustainability.

In a related move, a 'six-star,' luxury hotel in Macau - designed by Karl Lagerfeld himself - is also set to open before the end of 2021.

“We are very excited to bring Karl’s vision of effortless luxury to life in this amazing residential project, which will correspond and blend in with the beauty of the landscape and the environment,” said Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld.

The high-end resort is made up of five unique villas that range in size between 500 to 900 square metres, set in an airy plot of land of some 9,000 square metres. No information was released on prices.

Natural construction materials will allow the spaces to merge seamlessly with the landscape, blurring the artistic boundaries of the homes’ interior and exterior design. The project was conceived using large-volume architecture to create panoramic views of the sea and the mountains from every angle, the fashion house said in a release.

“This type of exclusive real estate was unprecedented within our borders and is what Marbella needed to be a true, high-standing residential destination in the world. We achieved it, so now we are happy to continue moving forward through such an important alliance with an iconic brand such as Karl Lagerfeld," said Sierra Blanca Estates CEO Carlos Rodríguez.

Despite his passing in 2019, the Karl Lagerfeld brand has enjoyed steady growth with more than 200 stores worldwide, with flagships in Paris, London, Munich, Moscow, Dubai and Shanghai; and an online store that reaches 96 countries.

The designer had a long love affair with hotels, having designed the interiors of the Schlosshotel in the chic Grunewald district of Berlin. He was also once hired to design several countries in The World, an ambitious project to build a series of artificial islands off the shores of Dubai. However, when the 2008 recession hit and the project fell drastically behind schedule, The World slowly began to erode into the sea due to the waves and wind.

“Those bastards, they never did pay me my commission. However, nature is very powerful and has taken its revenge!” Lagerfeld once told this fashion editor recently returned from the Gulf.
