During the opening of the exhibition that showcases the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2022 30 finalists in Seoul, the Spanish luxury brand unveiled this edition's winner: Korean artist Dahye Jeong, who has been awarded the prize for her work "A Time of Sincerity".

"The jury recognized Jeong's dedication to reviving and updating this tradition, one of the key purposes of the Craft Prize, as well as the delicate perfection, transparency and lightness of her work," stressed Loewe in a statement.

The international jury of the award, made up of 13 experts from different fields, from journalism to architecture, has also awarded two honorable mentions. The first one was given to South African artist Andile Dyalvane for his clay pot "Cornish Wall", etched with the imprint of a bonsai brush. The second one went to Julia Obermaier from Germany and her work "Verborgen", a unique jewelry piece that overlaps pieces of crystals and "reconsiders where the value of jewelry lies".

Loewe announced the thirty finalists of its Craft Prize 2022 at the beginning of the year. The artists were chosen by a panel of experts from among 3,100 submissions from 116 countries. The final lineup, whose works will be on display at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCA) until July 30, includes creatives from 15 different countries working with a wide range of materials such as wood, ceramics, textiles, leather, glass and metal.

"This year's edition presents a provocative selection of works that show a mastery of materials, technique and creative innovation. With an experimental spirit and vision of the future, these objects not only reflect the personal language and know-how of their creator, but also speak of the culture of our time," explained the Loewe Foundation.

This award was created in 2016 and spearheaded by Loewe's creative director, Jonathan Anderson. The contest's purpose is to recognize outstanding contributions in contemporary craftsmanship and also seeks to be a tribute to the brand's beginnings as a workshop in Madrid in 1846.

"Craftsmanship is the essence of Loewe. As a brand, we are dedicated to it in its purest sense. That's where our modernity lies, and that's why it will always be relevant," stated Anderson.
