Marimekko names new leader for West region

Marimekko has announced a major management change with Noora Laurila appointed Senior Vice President of Sales in Region West and member of the firm’s Management Group.

The region covers a huge and very important territory for the company taking in its domestic Finnish market, as well as Scandinavia in general, the whole of EMEA and North America.

The 39-year-old starts on 14 September and will report to President and CEO Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko.

Laurila moves to Marimekko from L’Oréal, where she has worked in multiple commercial leadership and key positions in Finland and the Nordics since 2008. Currently responsible for Nordic business development, she has “wide-ranging commercial knowledge and experience in leading and developing sales, product portfolio and brand”.

The firm took the decision to change its sales leadership structure to divide it into two giant regions with Region East comprising Asia-Pacific. The company hasn't yet named a leader for this region and said the search for a senior VP is ongoing there.

“Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Marimekko’s profitable growth has progressed well in recent years. This change in the sales leadership model is implemented to further strengthen Marimekko’s international growth capabilities, providing closer support to the key market areas with their different business models and stages in brand development,” said Tiina Alahuhta-Kasko.

Marimekko had said last month that Chief Sales Officer and member of the Management Group Dan Trapp will resign as of 2 August from his role for personal reasons. He’s starting his own consultancy within the sports industry, based in Bordeaux, France.
