McQueen's Gintzburger to lead Versace, Testa steps across to replace him

Capri Holdings on Monday named Alexander McQueen chief Emmanuel Gintzburger as the new CEO at Versace, effective this September. On the same day, Kering named Gianfilippo Testa as CEO of McQueen, talking over the role in May.

Gintzburger has been McQueen CEO since May 2016 and was previously Worldwide Retail and Wholesale Director for Saint Laurent from 2011, having joined the Kering-owned Paris-based fashion house in 2009 as the Europe Retail Director.

Previous roles include senior posts at Lanvin and Sephora, as well as six years spent at Louis Vuitton in Hong Kong.

John D Idol, Chairman and CEO of Capri Holdings, said he “has a proven track record of building global fashion luxury houses. We believe that Emmanuel’s vision for Versace will help us achieve our ambitions for the future. Versace already has strong momentum and Emmanuel’s leadership will help us further accelerate our plans and strengthen our strategic initiatives.”

Donatella Versace added that “he has an amazing background in luxury. As soon as I met him, I knew he was the perfect partner to help us take Versace to even greater heights”.

The CEO’s chair became vacant when Jonathan Akeroyd accepted the chief executive's post at Burberry.

Meanwhile at McQueen, Testa will report to François-Henri Pinault in his new role. The Italian national also has a long track record in the luxury industry in Europe and Asia.

He started his career at TAG Heuer in 2002 and went on to hold a range of roles at LVMH, specifically at Fendi in Italy, Japan and Hong Kong. He joined Kering in 2016 as Gucci President Greater China and since 2019, he has been President of EMEA and VP Global Retail at Gucci.

In his new post at the much smaller label, his “mission will aim at accelerating the expansion of the British luxury house to tap its full potential”.
