Messe Frankfurt’s Berlin trade shows to become Neonyt

Messe Frankfurt is merging its two sustainability-focused fashion fairs, Ethical Fashion Show Berlin and Greenshow, under the new name of Neonyt. The shows, together with the FashionSustain conference, the #Fashiontech event organised by Premium Group and other Berlin Fashion Week events and showcases, will form a new “global hub for future-oriented fashion and sustainable innovations”.

Thimo Schwenzfeier has been hired to lead the events into their next stage.

The fairs will retain their names for the upcoming edition of Berlin Fashion Week from 3-5 July, and relaunch again under the Neonyt brand in the autumn for the winter 2019 edition.

“Our vision for the future of the fashion industry is an age of sustainable growth. This requires innovations that find dynamic solutions to social and environmental problems. With Neonyt, we're launching a global hub that brings together visionary experts in the industry, provides a broad platform for a sustainable lifestyle and continues to provide a consistent future-oriented focus for the fashion industry,” said Olaf Schmidt, vice president of Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt.

‘Sustainability in fashion has evolved from a nice-to-have to a synonym for innovation and progress. I have been able to actively shape this development at our green trade fairs in recent years. I’m now looking forward to taking our events at the Kraftwerk to the next level together with the established team around Bernd Müller,” added Thimo Schwenzfeier, who will take up the role of show director alongside his existing responsibilities as director of marketing and communications at Messe Frankfurt.

The new name Neonyt comes from the ancient Greek word ‘neo’, meaning ‘revolutionary’ and the Swedish word ‘nytt’, meaning ‘new’, and refers to the technological and sustainable forces driving the fashion and textile industry today.

The hub will focus on the themes of Business, Inspiration, Knowledge and Community. Additionally, Messe Frankfurt said it wants to put a stronger focus on curating its shows based on social and environmental factors. The ‘style worlds’ of Moderncasual, Craft, Urbanvibe and Greenshowroom will be continued and complemented with further product areas such as Beauty.

Messe Frankfurt has been involved with the Ethical Fashion Show brand since 2010, when its Paris-based business acquired the trade show following its launch in 2004. In 2012, the company founded the Ethical Fashion Show in Berlin, and bought the Greenshowroom in 2011.

The two trade fairs have been held in the same venue since 2015, first in Postbahnhof, then in Funkhaus and most recently at Kraftwerk Berlin.
