H&M-owned youth fashion brand Monki is to enter the Philippines for the first time this summer as it continues its international expansion programme.

The company will open two stores, both of them in Manila, at two of the largest shopping centres in the country. The brand will debut first in the SM Megamall, followed closely by an opening in SM Mall of Asia.

The company said the new retail spaces “will be transformed into a world of glitter, mirrored walls and scallop detailing – with design features unique to each store, and unique to the Monki world”.

H&M has been putting a lot of support behind the growth of the Monki brand in recent periods. Last year it opened in Iceland for the first time, returned to the Brussels market, and in the UK, it continued its growth outside of the London area with a debut in Birmingham. In the previous year it opened its biggest store worldwide so far with the launch of its Haussmann store in Paris.

Monki also moved into social shopping with a major initiative in 2019 and launched collections supporting mental health awareness, a key issue for the young demographic it targets.
