More John Lewis stores launch fashion buyback scheme

John Lewis is extending its fashion buyback service to five more shops and one Waitrose store following a successful pilot in Oxford.

Customers with a myJohn Lewis or myWaitrose card can take their 'pre-loved' items from any womenswear and menswear brands stocked at John Lewis, including Boden, Barbour and French Connection, and receive £3 per item off a purchase.

The trial first launched in Oxford last October, and was originally planned to last for six weeks.

Stores in Southampton, Birmingham, Cheadle, Cambridge and Bluewater have now been added to the scheme, as well as Waitrose in Cheadle Hulme. In Oxford, the trial has been extended indefinitely.

Milly Cunningham, senior sustainability manager at John Lewis said: “We had a great response from customers in Oxford so we want to test this service in other areas of the country and in our sister company Waitrose.

“We feel we have a responsibility to make it easy for our customers to ensure the products they buy from us have a long life after they no longer have use for them. We guarantee that none of the items we buy back will end up in landfill.”

An estimated 300,000 tonnes of clothings are sent to landfill in the UK each year.

John Lewis is also working towards diverting beauty bottles and containers from landfill through a BeautyCycle service. Now available in 36 shops across the UK, the service rewards customers who bring back five empty beauty items with £5 off any beauty purchase.
