The Japanese business, Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., announced at its board of directors meeting held on February 20 that it will establish its lifestyle brand Muji in Vietnam. Aiming to harness the fast growth of the ASEAN nation Vietnam, Muji will bring its brand of minimalist clothing, homeware, and lifestyle products to the country.

Ryohin Keikaku, the business behind the Muji brand, plans to formally establish Muji Vietnam Limited Liability Company in August 2019. The business’ headquarters will be in Ho Chi Minh City and the brand representative will be decided at a later date. The business will be a local subsidiary and 100 percent owned by Ryohin Keikaku.

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam has the third largest population of the fast-developing ASEAN countries and, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam 2018, saw GDP growth of 7.1 percent in 2018. Ryohin Keikaku  cited this as a major reason for establishing a business in the country.

“We expect that our experience and know-how in the global market would help in running the stores that serves everyday living and increases Muji fans in the area,” said the business in a press release.
