Munich Fabric Start has reported that its latest edition held on 3-5 September at Munich Order Center (MOC) and Zenith Halle welcomed 1% more visitors than last season. The addition of the new hall 8, coupled with the extended exhibitor list as well as a broad content programme attracted 20,300 trade visitors over three days.

Expanded to eight halls, the over 1,000 international exhibitors presented more than 2,000 collections across Fabrics, Additionals, Denim and Sourcing for Autumn Winter 2020/21.

There were more visitors from countries including France, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, China, the USA, South Africa and Eastern European countries such as Turkey, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary or Slovakia.

In contrast, fewer visitors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain attended the event this season.

Still, managing director Sebastian Klinder said he was satisfied with the turnout. “In view of the current market situation in Germany and Europe, we are very satisfied with this number and visitor footfall across the three days of the fair. The Keyhouse and the Bluezone have experienced the strongest footfall since their inception. We are seeing a shift in visitor demand beyond sourcing materials and ingredients - with visitors gravitating towards content and impulses, innovation and market trends.”

The trade fair described the launch of the new Sourcing Area in the newly-opened Business Club Munich directly opposite the MOC as a "complete success”. A curated selection of 75 international clothing manufacturers and suppliers presented in the new Hall 8 their latest products for Women, Men, Accessories, Corporate, Couture and Tailored.

In addition to the biggest German-language garment manufacturers, there were well-known local retailers sourcing materials for the upcoming season. And visitors from Baltic countries, Russia and the Netherlands.

“It was a very important step to put the new sourcing space in this location, with good feedback coming from exhibitors and many visitors. All exhibitors have promised they will be back for the next season. It’s important that manufacturing and production firms are showcased in Munich and can show themselves in this exclusive space,” Klinder concluded.

The next edition will take place from 4-6 February 2020, while the Bluezone will be held on 4-5 February 2020.
