Nivea abandons travel retail in Europe

German group Beiersdorf has decided to pull its Nivea brand out of airport and duty-free retail in Europe, Duty Free News International has stated.

"The last few years proved that the purchasing behaviour of consumers in European travel retail isn't favourable to us, compared to that of other regions worldwide," the group indicated, without however ruling out a possible return to European airports. "We will continue to closely monitor the development of this retail channel in the region."

Nivea is now strengthening its duty-free and travel retail operations in the Middle East, North Africa and India, led by its Dubai headquarters. Beiersdorf will keep a foothold in European travel retail through its luxury brand La Prairie.
