Primark opening drives Colchester mall visitors up 30%

The full extent of Primark’s appeal as a fashion shopping destination can be seen from some news Monday with CBRE Global Investors reporting a massive 30% rise in average daily footfall at its Lion Walk mall in Colchester due to the value-focused chain’s arrival.

Primark has opened at Lion Walk and driven footfall higher

Primark opened at the shopping centre in eastern England earlier this month. It occupies a 56,000 sq ft/5,202 sq m space at the mall and has a 20-year lease for the premises.

Its arrival there obviously whipped up major interest among fashion shoppers in the area, despite the existing presence in the mall of big names such as  Topshop, River Island, New Look, M&S and Boots

A clearly-pleased CBRE said the average daily footfall at the centre is now 30,000 compared to 23,000 before Primark opened.

Joshua Nixon of the retail team at letting agent Savills said: “Primark has been at the top of Colchester’s retailer wish list for many years and its opening reaffirms Lion Walk as the shopping destination of choice in the town.”
