Quiz restarts e-store with safety measures in place

Published

Quiz Clothing became the latest under-pressure retailer to reopen its webstore this week. The company, which specialises in occasion-focused womenswear, had closed its web operations along with its physical shops as it had proved impossible at the time to run the webstore with the required degree of safety for workers.

But like some other retailers that did the same (including Next, Schuh, and Net-A-Porter), it has now reopened the online store, although with some limits.

The company said that its website is now “fully functional, albeit offering standard delivery services only”.

It added that the distribution centre (DC) that’s reopening “will operate in strict accordance with all government and health authority guidance”.

Operations will be undertaken by employees “who are willing and able to return to work safely, and the group has significantly reduced the number of employees working in the DC at any given time to enable strict social distancing. A number of additional safety measures have also been implemented, including deep cleaning and the provision of personal protection equipment in order to keep its employees safe and protected”.

It's an important step for the company, as well as for those other retailers that have reopened, in a period when cash flow is slowing to a trickle and no sales are possible through physical shops.

While public opinion is still heavily supportive of the need to keep physical shops closed, it's clearly also increasingly important for businesses to try to function and online shopping is a key way for the fashion sector to get through the coronavirus crisis.
