Redken 5th Avenue NYC has announced hair colorist and icon Josh Wood has joined the organization as the new Global Color Creative Director.

Josh Wood - Redken

Wood has built his career creating color for top industry names. He spent 14 years at Vidal Sassoon in Leeds, United Kingdom and got his big break when he worked directly with Sassoon and David Bowie to develop the red look that Bowie wore on his iconic Earthling album.

He has impacted the industry significantly, driving trends that include making grey hair glamorous again, hyper natural color, and sun-kissed looks.

Wood's client list includes fashion designers Marc Jacobs, Versace, Louis Vuitton and Jean Paul Gaultier as well as many publishing names.

Wood said, "Color is my passion and I've always wanted to push the boundaries on the way we think about color. I'm excited to bring a new vision to Redken."

In his new role, Woods will serve as a spokesperson for Redken and will participate in Redken's education initiatives and events. He will also provide artistic direction for photo shoots and contribute his vision to product development. He naturally will also create inspirational looks for Redken models and muses.

Born in Barnsley, UK, Wood shared how he got his unexpected start in hair color.

He said, "My hairdressing career started by chance. It was far from a natural choice for a young lad from the working class, mining town of Barnsley. I followed a friend and signed up for a Saturday job at a local salon and soon found myself enrolled on a Youth Training Scheme. I realized hairdressing could be my means of escape."
