Salon International de la Lingerie: slight decline but positive results

Published
Jan 30, 2015

The complicated economic and political environment was clear prior to the Parisian trade shows held in January, but the events nevertheless seem to have held up. The Salon International de la Lingerie in particular was met with challenges, with declines in Russian and Ukrainian attendance, but it was otherwise generally satisfactory.

Eurovet’s management has, however, elected not to release overall attendance figures this year but according to sources, they would prove somewhat reduced, although only by a few notches. The decline was apparently due to the drastic 40% decrease of Russian visitors, the country with the seventh largest attendance at the show until this year. The Ukrainian contingent was also smaller, although to a lesser extent.

The country with the greatest numbers, France, made up approximately 40% of visitors and experienced a small decline in numbers, as did Italy and the UK. Nevertheless, Denmark, Greece and especially Spain’s numbers rose, the latter moving up from the lower end of the top 10 to 5th place. Further afield, increases were also recorded for the Middle East (+ 9%), Australia, South Africa and the United States, which made it into the top 10 at the expense of Russia.

Given the context, organizers, as well as many of the exhibitors, nevertheless felt the January 2015 edition to be positive. Brands enjoyed a commercially successful edition with quality orders. The trade show saw a strong attendance in terms of e-commerce buyers, for example, up 10% from last season.
