Salvatore Ferragamo opts for a co-ed runway

Published
Nov 24, 2017

Following Gucci, Etro, Bottega Veneta, Missoni and Jil Sander, Milan Fashion Week will add a new co-ed runway show to its calendar next year: Salvatore Ferragamo, which has announced its intention to adopt the new format, bringing together its mens and womenswear collections in a single show, as of 2018.

The last Ferragamo womenswear runway was designed by Fulvio Rigoni, since succeeded as Creative Director by Paul Andrew - © PixelFormula

"This decision shows the brand's desire to increase coherence between its men's and women's collections in a demanding market, developing an increasingly strong and precise positioning," the Florentine luxury label explained in a release.

Ferragamo's first co-ed runway will take place in Milan next February for the Autumn/Winter 2018-19 season. It remains to be seen how well the brand's two creative spirits will work together, as menswear is currently the remit of the French designer Guillaume Meilland, recruited almost a year ago, while womenswear was recently confided to Paul Andrew.

Indeed, this first co-ed show in February will also be the first runway from the new Creative Director, who, until recently, was in charge of women's footwear design. A year after having been appointed to the newly created role of Women's Footwear Design Director – a first for the label since the time of its eponymous founder – the young British designer is now responsible for all of the brand's womenswear.
