According to a statement, Shang Xia is opening its first true “maison” in China, inaugurating a large, three-storey flagship store in Shanghai’s Xin Tian Di neighborhood at 233 Huaihai Middle Road, in a red brick, French-style building dating from 1912.

"The first two floors are set aside for sales space and include Shang Xia’s entire range. The third floor is designed as a flexible space for exhibiting Chinese art,” said the house.

The high end, “made in China” ready-to-wear, furniture and tableware brand, takes its inspiration from traditional Chinese arts and crafts. It was founded by designer Jiang Qiong Er's in 2010 in partnership with the French luxury group Hermès, which holds a majority stake in the brand.

Based in Shanghai, where it opened its first store in 2010, Shang Xia also has a store in Beijing that opened in late 2012 and a third one in Paris, which opened in September 2013 at 8, rue de Sèvres (6th arrondissement).

All three stores were designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who has also worked on the brand’s new flagship.
