Spring Fair reports busy opening day

Published
Feb 7, 2022

The organisers of Birmingham’s Spring fair said they saw a busy opening day on Sunday and although there were no specific figures available they said “thousands of retail buyers, and owners of independent stores from across the UK flocked to Spring Fair as it opened its doors for the first time in two years”.

The runway made a return to the event

The biggest and longest-running wholesale marketplace in the UK runs until Wednesday (9 February) and this edition is key as it includes Moda as its fashion section.

The organisers highlighted “the busy aisles and stands across all eight Halls showing that retailers are ready for a return to business as usual and in-person trading, with a palpable thirst for newness”.

It’s been a tough two years for the event as hopes for a return to normality after the early stages of the pandemic were dashed and even now, visitors still need to show proof of vaccination, exemption status or negative test, while mask-wearing is being encouraged inside the halls.

On Sunday, Julie Driscoll, Divisional Managing Director, Spring Fair & Moda, said: “The show has been bustling all day today, exhibitors are excited to be back and retailers have flocked to the show to return to face to face business and networking. We are still on a high after winning AEO’s Trade Show of the Century Award, and feel genuinely proud to continue to successfully put on the UK’s largest and longest running tradeshow.”

The organisers also said that Moda has “settled beautifully into its new home as the Fashion destination at Spring Fair” and this was marked by the return of the Moda catwalk. Looks included “the playful and colourful Childhood Dreams, the urban traveller Off The Grid edit, and glam 70s style metallic Liquid Metal trends”.

Exhibitor Antony Wright from Barrhead Leather said: “This is our first time showing at Moda at Spring Fair and it’s all going according to plan. In the first morning I’ve signed five new customers, so I’m delighted with the results so far.”
