Ted Baker appoints HR expert to its board

Published
Apr 25, 2019

Ted Baker has brought in a human resources heavyweight to support its HR overhaul following founder Ray Kelvin’s ‘forced hugging’ scandal.

Helena Feltham, who has over 30 years of experience in retail and human resource leadership, will join the premium fashion retailer in May.

She was formerly people director at B&Q and, prior to that, held the role of human resources director at fashion companies including Jack Wills, Marks & Spencer, Topshop and Woolworths South Africa. She is currently a serving director and trustee of the Retail Trust.

Her appointment follows that of Lindsay Page as chief executive officer earlier this month. Page replaces Ray Kelvin, who resigned with immediate effect in March following a voluntary leave of absence after a number of former Ted Baker employees accused him of inappropriate behaviour.

The brand has been trying to clear its name since then, choosing to make no comment on the specific allegations which were made against Kelvin and focusing on improving its HR policies instead.

An independent investigation conducted by law firm Herbert Smith Freehills, released on April 11, recommended the firm to train all employees on acceptable workplace conduct and maintain a confidential whistleblowing hotline.

Commenting on Helena Feltham’s appointment, chairman David Bernstein said: "We are delighted that Helena is joining us at this important time for the business. Working with the board, Helena's support and insight on implementing the recommendations from the independent HR policies and procedures review will be of great value.”

She added: "Ted Baker has great people who have an obvious passion for what they do. I am really looking forward to working with the board and the wider team.”
