The Netherlands' Zeeman names new Chairman of the Supervisory Board

Dutch retailer Zeeman announced on Thursday that Jaap Lagerweij, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Zeeman Group B.V., has stepped down. Lagerweij will be succeeded by Bert Roetert, effective immediately.

Lagerwerij fulfilled the role for four years. He said in a press release: “Zeeman is a healthy retailer with a bright future. In recent years, I have seen the company undergo some beautiful growth during difficult market conditions. I wish the Zeeman management, my successor and my fellow members of the Supervisory Board every success in continuing the growth of the company in the coming years.”

Bert Roetert started his career at COOP supermarkets, followed by various management roles at Friesland Campina and several departments at Sara Lee / DE, and again Friesland Campina. In 2006 he returned to retail, and became CEO at C1000. Since 2008, Roetert held various roles, including as Supervisory Board member at Linders supermarkets, Alliander and Royal Smilde as well as chairman of Food Valley and the Centraal Bureau Levensmiddelen.

Jan Zeeman, owner at Zeeman, said: “Bert Roetert is a highly experienced professional with excellent knowledge of retail and change management. In addition, he also gained the necessary international experience, which is a plus for his role at Zeeman. With him as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Zeeman is taking the next step in the growth of our beautiful company. We are very happy with his arrival and welcome Bert."

In addition to Bert Roetert, the Zeeman Supervisory Board consists of Dorine Burmanje, Tom Rövekamp and Wim Timmermans.

Zeeman first opened in 1967 in Alphen aan den Rijn, the Netherlands. The chain currently operates 1,285 stores in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain and Austria.
