The new glitter face masks set to take over this holiday season

Glitter, undoubtedly one of the biggest runaway beauty trends of 2017, now looks set to take over the skincare industry.

At the forefront of the movement is cosmetics brand Too Faced, which has been teasing its latest project -- a very sparkly and somewhat questionably titled glitter face mask called ‘Glow Job' -- for some time now. The brand finally fully unveiled the product over the Thanksgiving weekend ahead of its December launch, sending glitter-loving beauty fans into meltdown.

Described as a ‘radiance boosting and exfoliating peel-off mask', the product is infused with real gold particles for an extra shimmer factor. The transparent, glittery mixture is designed to be spread on the face with a spatula and left to dry for 30 minutes before being peeled off to reveal smooth, soft skin that is "makeup ready."

Taking to Instagram to show the mask in action, Too Faced co-founder Jerrod Blandino said: "I've wanted to do a glitter mask for more than 5 years but the science just wasn't ready. I'm so happy to tell you that Glow Job is almost here!" He also shared a glimpse of the product's packaging -- which features a color palette of sparkly pink and gold, naturally.

But Too Faced is not the only skincare brand capitalizing on the glitter fever currently spreading through the beauty world. Back in August, cult brand GlamGlow also announced the imminent launch of its shiny new ‘Glitter Mask' -- an equally twinkly-looking peel off mask set to launch in store at Sephora for the Holiday 2017 season. The mask, which contains actual star-shaped pieces of glitter for added festive sparkle, might look like a fun gimmick, but the brand insists that there is serious science behind the product, which features the same technology as its popular ‘Gravity Mud' firming treatment.

Meanwhile, celebrity makeup artist Joyce Bonelli has also revealed to her 2.2 million Instagram followers that a ‘Glitter Scrub Enzyme Mask' will form part of her upcoming 2018 cosmetics line, suggesting that dazzling skincare treatments could be coming to a bathroom cabinet near you in the immediate future.
