Theory: Olivier Theyskens becomes new Creative Director

Published

As the label just unveils its first Theyskens' Theory collection, the Belgian designer entrusts the artistic reins to a new creative director for Fast Retailing’s fashion brand.

The first Theyskens' Theory spring-summer 2011 collection, presented during New York Fashion Week in September 2010 succeeded in its seduction efforts, pleasing Andrew Rosen, founder of Theory. For this reason, he awards the entire artistic direction to Olivier Theyskens.

This move puts an end to rumours circulating since Belgian designer Nina Ricci left in 2009. She had in fact refused to say anything. So now it's from New York that we follow the evolution of the new director’s style. His first show is expected for next February showcasing the Autumn-Winter 2011 collections.

Olivier Theyskens, 32, started his career at a young age. Graduated from National School of Visual Arts of La Cambre, he launched his own label in 1997 which lasted until 2001. He then joined the Rochas house (2002-2006) and helped to restore its whole universe. Then he gained experience with Nina Ricci (2006-2009). Today he becomes aprt of the global giant, Fast Retailing (Uniqlo, Comptoir des Cottoniers, Helmut Lang and Princesse Tam Tam) where he will be in charge of a team of six stylists working on the Theyskens' Theory line, adding his personal touch. “I am delighted to lend my perspective to a brand as important and as rooted in contemporary fashion as Theory”, the designer declares.
