Transgender model Hari Nef stars in Eckhaus Latta campaign

Ready-to-wear label Eckhaus Latta has launched a new campaign in collaboration with footwear brand Camper, choosing transgender activist and model Hari Nef to star in the short video.

Camper x Eckhaus Latta

The campaign promotes Eckhaus Latta's new collection with Spanish footwear brand Camper. The capsule line will be released at select Camper locations on Thursday. The video follows Nef and performance artist Martine Gutierriez wandering around a Mediterranean island.

The off-kilter label has a tendency to feature non-traditional models in its campaigns. R&B singer-songwriter Dev Hynes has walked in the brand's runway shows previously, as have visual artists India Menuez and Alexandra Marzella.

This isn't Nef's first time working with Eckhaus Latta. She walked in the brand's Spring 2015 show (which was, notably, Nef's first fashion week appearance), and has walked in almost every one of the brand's shows since.

Hair Nef is the first transgender model to be signed by IMG Models, and the first transgender model to be featured on a British magazine cover (Elle, September 2016).

This is one of many campaigns fronted by transgender models in recent times. Earlier this week, transgender model Andreja Pejic fronted Reformation's holiday campaign, while earlier in the year, MAC chose Caitlyn Jenner to partner with for a campaign and lipstick collaboration.

Eckhaus Latta is a New York-based ready-to-wear brand. The brand shows at New York Fashion Week bi-annually.
