Trio of retailers sign up for London's first eco market

A new eco market built from recycled shipping containers is set to open in Camden Town, London next month.

Buck Street Market

Housing more than 80 food and retail brands, all committed to sustainable practices and processes, Buck Street Market will be a new destination for eco-minded consumers.

There will be recycling points throughout the development, zero-plastic on-site, and all food waste will be composted to generate energy.

Three new retail operators have recently signed up to open stores at Buck Street Market, which is owned by LabTech.

Lifestyle retailer Londonworks will open a 900 sq ft space dedicated to ‘slow fashion’, music, home décor and contemporary gifts. Visitors will be able to find a selection of sustainable brands, including organic, vegan, fair-trade certified sock brand Conscious Step and Danish clothing brand Colorful Standard.

Sweyn Forkbeard, the male grooming brand named after the first Viking of England, is set to open its sixth market space in London, taking a 74 sq ft site within the location.

Handmade babywear retailer Dress Up Baby is the third name to sign up for the development, with plans to open its third London space. The 74 sq ft store will offer bespoke clothing, accessories and toys for babies and toddlers, produced with natural materials such as linen, merino wool and cotton.

To Home From London, the handcrafted London souvenir specialist, has also taken a 74 sq ft space.

Maggie Milosavljevic, LabTech’s retail commercial director, said: “At Buck Street Market we are committed to delivering a revolutionary space that prioritises environmental education, conversation and positive change.

“Tailored towards the ‘conscious consumer’, our selection of local fashion retailers reflects our commitment towards championing sustainability, mirroring the aims held across our eco conscious food and beverage portfolio. We are confident our selection of retailers will embrace the ethical aims held by Buck Street Market, delivering a vibrant and sustainable lifestyle destination.”

Located a stone’s throw away from Camden Market, Buck Street Market will be situated in an area of London that receives millions of annual visitors. Further adding to the neighbourhood’s diverse mix of shops, restaurants and creative venues, a 580,000 sq ft mixed-scheme development called Hawley Wharf Camden is due to open later this year. The canal-side development will provide 150 shops, over 60 places to eat, 195 apartments and 50,000 sq ft of co-working space.
