Yosuke Aizawa named creative director for Colmar's Revolution line

Colmar has named Yosuke Aizawa — the founder of White Mountaineering — as its creative director consultant for its premium brand offering Revolution and has unveiled its first collection to result from the newly-deepened partnership.

The multi-season deal will see him helming the highest-positioned line within the Colmar Originals Collection.

It marks a continuing collaboration for Colmar and Aizawa as they first linked up two years ago for the “highly appreciated” White Mountaineering x Colmar A.G.E.collection. 

The company said the two brands were both established “around the love of snow and the oudoors”, Colmar a century ago and White Moutaineering in 2006.

It added that Aizawa is “strongly inspired by the heritage of his family, particularly those of Fussan, a town near Tokyo and situated near an American base, which resulted in a strong Western imprint that runs throughout his designs”. 

He studied Product and Textile Design at Tokyo’s Tama Art University and became a protégée of Junya Watanabe. 

In almost two decades since his brand was founded, the label has developed and international profile with its “everyday outdoor looks, cleverly integrating practicality, technical fabrication and construction of heavy duty mountain-wear”.

Colmar said that following the initial collab, “Volume II of quilted puffer jackets, fleece sweats and knitwear followed” along with “spontaneous conversations highlighting the need to create a new line that explored a combined passion for the outdoors, technical expertise and desire to create highly functional garments that perform as well outdoors, as they do in the city”.

Its CEO Giulio Colombo, added: “We asked Yosuke Aizawa to work with us again as our past experience made us realise that we had potential for a deeper collaboration.”

The resulting product offer is, “an innovative collection, where our company’s 100-year experience blends with Aizawa’s contemporary, technical vision”.
