Yves Saint Laurent museum to open in Marrakech in the fall

Published

A museum dedicated to the life and work of Yves Saint Laurent is slated to open in Marrakech in the fall.

Yves Saint Laurent

Paying homage to the late fashion designer, the 43,060-square-foot museum will house over 5,000 articles of clothing and 15,000 haute couture accessories.

The pieces were selected by Yves Saint Laurent’s former CEO, Pierre Bergé, who has worked for ten years to keep the Saint Laurent legacy well-documented and available to the public.

The collection will include thousands of sketches by Saint Laurent, one-of-a-kind objects, and a state-of-the-art preservation system that regulates moisture and temperature to ensure the preserved archival condition of each article of clothing.

The facility will also include a 130-seat auditorium, a restaurant, a gift shop, and an accompanying research library with access to over 5,000 books.

The space was designed by French architects Olivier Marty and Karl Fournier and their firm Studio KO. It will be built next Marrakech’s Jardin Majorelle, a botanical garden in the Moroccan city's centre.
