CFDA's Mark Beckham on the upcoming New York Fashion Week Men's

Published
Jan 26, 2017

Expectations are high as New York Fashion Week Men’s kicks off January 30-February 2, rounding out a month of strong menswear shows on the European runways. We speak to the CFDA's Mark Beckham about the upcoming shows.

New York Fashion Week:Men’s kicks off January 30-February 2,  in west SoHo, rounding out a month of strong menswear shows on the European runways. Now in its fourth season, NYFW:M will showcase over 60 brands, including notable designers like Raf Simons, Ralph Lauren and Patrick Ervell. Mark Beckham, Business Director of Fashion Weeks at the CFDA, which organizes NYFW: Men's, is optimistic about the upcoming show season.    “The strength and talent of this community continues to grow in large part because of the success of the past three seasons,” he says.

As NYFW: Men's gets more established, the world is starting to take notice.   Attendance is up among the international press, representing global titles from the UK to Turkey, Japan and Brazil, notes Beckham. “NYFW:M continues to be important because it allows American menswear designers the opportunity for them to showcase their collections on a globally recognized platform,” he adds.

Established designers are well represented this season, and there is still plenty of attention paid to young labels, as well, with newcomers like DimMak and cool-kid fave Death to Tennis being among the most anticipated shows. “This season, NYFW: Men’s features a diverse array of top menswear designers from established global brands to emerging talents making their debut,” Beckham says. The addition of designer Raf Simons to the calendar, “brings a level of excitement and attention that elevates all the designers showing during the week.”

As NYFW: Men's starts to come into its own, there are high expectations for the New York shows, and the CFDA is committed to the future of men's fashion week in NY.  “The week has proven to be a huge success both editorially and from a retail perspective,” says Beckham.  “NYFW: M has shown the breadth of talent that American menswear designers possess to a global audience.”
