Vintage Trend - It Bags (Fashion for Breakfast)

Published
May 5, 2021

Some bags pass every test of time: IT bags are those that go well beyond the current trend and maintain a timeless charm that brings the generations together.

These are bags that have written fundamental pages in fashion history, iconic pieces that are still to this day among the most sought after by fashionistas around the world.
For this reason these unique and one-of-a-kind creations linked to key female characters of the fashion world are a must in our selection of vintage trends.

One of these unforgettable IT bags is the iconic Chanel 2.55, which is named after the date it was launched: In fact Mademoiselle Coco Chanel created it in February 1955. It is a small bag distinguished by the quilted pattern that takes a full 18 hours to create. The great Karl Lagerfeld later added the elegant front CC lock, typical of the fashion house, and the woven chain shoulder strap. It now comes in various materials and has been renewed in darker, more elegant or younger pastel colours.

Next let’s look at the Fendi Baguette, the iconic bag created by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997 that has become one of the most beloved timeless classics of women around the world. A playful bag that the designer created precisely to stand out in the minimal trend of the ‘90s, distinguished by a shoulder strap attached to the sides that keeps the purse tucked under the arm, in the way one would carry a baguette (typical French bread). Over time it has become a collection piece, and has been produced in numerous versions, all clearly distinguished by the fashion house’s monogram buckle and decorations, from floral to more abstract, embroidered or printed.

Gucci’s Jackie 1961 is undeniably one of celebrities’ favourites. Presented for the first time in 1961, this shoulder bag with its elegant curved shape and characteristic gold metal lock, became the emblem of the jet set in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and was renamed “The Jackie” because the First Lady always carried one. Alessandro Michele, the current creative director of the brand, decided to bring it back with his recent collections and today, this highly sought after IT bag also gained a long, removable shoulder strap to adapt to the needs of the modern woman always on the run.

From the end of the ‘90s to date: the Prada Cleo Bag, one of the most replicated of all times, maintains its charm and is still sought after by celebrities around the world. This IT bag embodies the allure of the brand and celebrates the extraordinary skill of the craftsmen of the Milanese fashion house, which has been crafting magnificent creations through traditional manufacturing techniques. The leather features a slight gloss that goes perfectly with the modern and curved design, created to fit the body perfectly when worn on the shoulder. The cherry on the icing: the front features the small triangular Prada logo embossed and enamelled, tone on tone.
