Influencing a wide range of sectors, from apparel and accessories to colour, materials and beyond, we see how seafaring aesthetics are updated with clean shapes and unexpected details to create effortlessly chic styles. Read on to discover four key trends from this must-have S/S16 theme, complete with exclusive product suggestions.

Transporting the seaside to the city, nautical nostalgia takes a modern direction for summer. New developments see classic stripes incorporate bold colour pops and changes in direction, as sports inspirations enhance the clean aesthetic of designs.  Other highlights include uneven hems and wraparound layers, bringing an urban slant to ensembles.

Colour: Boyhood Blue

A vibrant aquatic blue colour embraces summer collections, inspiring a boyish exuberance with nautical undertones. Vivid and fresh, this shade saturates casual jersey pieces with simple shapes, working well with tonal layering. Other examples range from leather sandals to modern eyewear accessories.

Materials: Cut-Out Cottons

Fabrics from the cotton family look new with the use of laser-cutting and lace techniques, forming contemporary patterns with a nod to broderie anglaise. These lightweight textures are typically executed in shades of pure white for added cleanness, as seen in the form of reworked sunhats, sleeveless tops and casual co-ords. Layer with crisp opaque cottons for a directional styling look.

Apparel: The Cut-Out Knit

Summertime knits become into modern must-haves with the inclusion of cut-out details. Applied to tops, dresses and polo shirts alike, panels expose bare shoulders or sides. These cut-outs can be used to create a play on layering, as manipulated designs make for intriguing fashion-forward shapes to update the womenswear wardrobe.
